An Introduction to More Than Gourmet

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

A tiny taste of the good flavors to come. More Than Gourmet is your partner in the kitchen.

If Freddy can do it, so too can you. We’ll bet you didn’t know you were such a good cook!

On the road again….

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Love that Willie Nelson tune. The SauceGuys are indeed on the road again.  I just returned from the Research Chefs Association in Phoenix, with some interesting topics to share in the next few days.  That timeless expression, “we are what we eat” is returning to fashion, it seems.  We never really thought it lost favor, to be honest about it.  That’s why no decoder ring needed when reading our ingredient statements.  Oh, back to Willie and the road.  We’ll  be sharing our newest culinary creations – the wine sauces - on a SauceGuys national tour.  Coming soon to a city quite possibly near you.

When you are next in Charleston, SC (actually in Mt. Pleasant), check out The Wreck of Richard and Charlene.  It’s hard to find (my Garmin navigator wanted to dump me in the river) but worth the journey.  Seafood served on paper plates.  Great seafood, too. Fresh.   A unique dining experience and great fun.

MTG earns additional award

Here’s a bit of good news on an otherwise dreary rainy day in Northeastern Ohio.  More Than Gourmet has been awarded Vegan Certification by the prestigious American Vegetarian Association.  This certification applies to our Veggie Stock, our Roasted Veg Demi Glace, ready to use Vegetable cooking stock and our wonderfully versatile Essence de Champignon (mushroom stock) – the latter a product that my carnivore friends relish and were shocked to discover this meaty mushroom stock was Vegan.  They had no idea how great vegan can be.  I like to add a bit of the Essence to Demi Glace Gold or our Glace de Viande for a nice added flavor note. Hey, more consumers than ever are adapting some Vegan or Vegetarian meals into their diets (including my meat loving friends), at least some of the time.  We’ve got some nice products to complement those side dishes and main meals. Try some, and tell us what you think.   Oh, a sudden thought: some new videos coming from the Sauce Bros.  Stay tuned.

“Failure to Communicate”

Monday, March 8th, 2010

One of Chef Louie’s favorite movies is Cool Hand Luke (he calls it a classic).  His favorite line from this flick is “what we have here is a failure to communicate”.  He utters this with us (at us?) from time to time and definitely last week when we were being called by anxious cooks and consumers about the HVP recall.  It seems callers were concerned this recall affected MTG — It did not.  It could not. We don’t use HVP.  We don’t use chemicals, preservatives, MSG, or yeast extracts.  We don’t have them in our plant, or our R+D kitchen,  for that matter.  Ever. We just assumed all our customers understood our products are authentic, our sauce heritage is real, our promise of product purity is a promise kept. Well,  a few inbound calls of  concerned customers compelled Louie to toss out his favorite quote. So, for all those concerned, this is an effort to communicate what we craft for cooks all around the globe:  real food.  Read our labels.
