Best Barbecue Sauce

Description

A rich, tangy sauce perfect for brushing on a slab of ribs or smoked pork chops. Get out the grill!

Ingredients

Makes
About 2 1/2 cups
  • 1 1/2 ounces Demi-Glace Gold®
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 6 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup (packed) light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne, or to taste
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper

Methods/steps

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a low simmer and whisk in the Demi-Glace Gold® with until dissolved. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the oil, add the garlic and onion, and cook until the vegetables are soft, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the demi-glace and the next seven ingredients, whisking to blend them together well, then bring the sauce to a simmer over low heat. Cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season the sauce to taste with salt and pepper.

Additional Tips

The sauce is even better if you make it 2-3 days before you use it, so the flavors blend and develop.  Store the sauce covered in the refrigerator.
