Sloppy Joes from Scratch
Using Beef Broth Concentrate
Here's our twist on an all-American classic. A favorite of kids of all ages, this sandwich made with flavorful meat sauce ladled over a toasted bun started appearing on American lunch counters and dinner tables during the Great Depression. It's still popular, and never better than when the Sloppy Joes are made from scratch with the best ground beef and Kitchen Accomplice.
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
¾ cup diced onion
1 large green bell pepper, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2¼ pounds ground beef
¼ cup dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1½ tablespoons chili powder
2½ cups tomato sauce
4 teaspoons Kitchen Accomplice Beef Broth Concentrate or 8 teaspoons Kitchen Accomplice Organic Beef Bone Broth Concentrate dissolved in 2 cups hot water
Salt and ground black pepper
6 hamburger buns, split and toasted
Place skillet over medium heat and add vegetable oil. Stir in the onion and green pepper and cook until the vegetables soften, 5-6 minutes. Add garlic and cook another minute. Add beef, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until browned, 7-10 minutes.
Add dark brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, tomato sauce and diluted Kitchen Accomplice Beef Broth Concentrate or Beef Bone Broth Concentrate. Increase heat to bring mixture to a boil, then reduce to medium-low and simmer, stirring often, 15-20 minutes.
Season to taste with salt and pepper and Tabasco sauce. To serve, ladle the Sloppy Joes meat sauce over the bottom half of each bun, then add the top.
