Savory Green Beans with Bacon

This traditional Southern way of cooking green beans is one of our favorites. They're slowly simmered in our flavorful chicken stock with bacon, onion, garlic, and a pinch of red pepper flakes, until they're tender and infused with great flavor.


  • 6 slices bacon, cut in 1-inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Pinch red pepper flakes, or to taste
  • 2 1/2 pounds green beans, trimmed
  • 2 cups water
  • 3/4 ounce Fond de Poulet Gold®
  • Salt and ground black pepper


  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until some fat is rendered, about 5 minutes.  Add the onion, and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.  Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and cook 1 minute more.
  2. Add the  green beans, water, and Fond de Poulet Gold®, stirring until the concentrate dissolves.  Season with salt and pepper.  Reduce the heat to low, partially cover the pan, and simmer until the beans are tender, but not mushy, 20-30 minutes.  Taste and season as needed with more salt and pepper.
